In an old tread from 2008 several members were debating the switch between two CPU's.
Has any one ever, managed to have a Dual Core Pentium replaced by a Core Duo successfully ?
Examples:Intel (Dual core) D940/ 800M F.S.B./ 3.2 Ghz replaced by E5800(Core Duo) F.S.B. 800/ 3.2 Ghz, both on socket 775 !?

Thanks,

A Pentium D and a Core2Duo are both LGA 775 chips. They fit in the same socket. However the Pentium D is a much older chip. Basically a newer ( LGA 775 is obsolete ) LGA 775 motherboard would support a Core2Duo and a Pentium D while an older LGA 775 motherboard would only support the Pentium D and not the newer Core2. So it really depends on the motherboard and what chipset it has.
