What are you using the processor for and what kind of budget do you have?

that site is pretty bad but does give you an idea of how much of a ripoff higher end cpus are.

I have 1000$ budgeted for hardware. Intended usage is office work, programming and some light gaming.

I suggest an I5 2500k or i5 2400if you don't want to overclock, would be much more than you need it for but is very good performance for the cost.

i5 + 8 gb of ram + 6870 + ssd + Z68 mobo would be very good for a $1000 computer for your needs.

Why even spend that much? An a8-3850 rig would handle all that at about 1/2 the cost.

I agree with the A8. AMDs best offering right now and blows intel out of the water in the graphics department. (which helps everything)

You're talking integrated graphics, hybrid Crossfire. I thought we were talking discrete graphics card. Granted, the A8 outperforms the i3-2100 with no graphics card. It's an APU.

Sorry for the confusion then. I was thinking the A8 is more than enough for light gaming and can handle applications quite well. It does require fast RAM though. Many reviewers say it makes an excellent all rounder.

Why not consider the Phenom II 955 or above processor. It is good for office work that required multi-threading process. Get a motherboard with IGP and later you can upgrade the GPU power by adding new card. Value for money and perfect for office work!

He can do that with the A8 as well using Hybrid graphics. Why spend more on an IGP when the A8 has significantly faster graphics?

Why not an i7? If you aren't playing games the igp will be perfectly fine.

Even if he was not gaming, the graphics card is becoming more and more important in the role of the computer.
