Advice on new parts

Hello everyone,
I have a PC, and the mobo and the gpu got fried.
I am hoping if you guys can help in some directions on where to start since i have been away from the computer hardware market for 3 years.
I am not looking for a serious gaming station. something that can withstand some moderate gaming and engineering softwares like solidworks.

my [remaining] built is:
E8400 intel cpu
600W cooler master PSU
4GB RAM
300GB Hard drive.

Thank you in advance.

Im surprised the mb and gfx card were damaged but the cpu and especially the RAM are fine . Are you sure ?

Look at intel mb's on Newegg. You need a socket 775 board . These are legacy items now but there are still some available . Prices are reasonable .
The good news is that you can still game really well with an e8400[ and presumably solidworks is still running well ] so all you need to do is fit a DX 11 graphics card .

What is your budget and what resolution is your monitor ?

I would recommend a radeon 6670 or 6770. If you are running windows 7 and want to migrate your OS to an SSD you could see a pretty big increase in the performance of your system (startup, responsiveness, applications open faster, etc).
