So I currently run an
i7 920 @ 2.66
Stock cooler
XFX H5770
WD 750GB Hardrive
in a Zalman Z7 case

I know I can keep the CPU and just need to upgrade the CPU cooler but have no idea about which one or how as I have not messed my computer in a long time.

I want to run maybe a HD 6870 or a 6950 to play BF3. The goal being something that is future proof for awhile.

I was also thinking about installing an SSD to run my OS and keep the 750GB hardrive just for memory purposes.

So in short, looking for:
A new GPU to run BF3
CPU cooler
A SSD

For a GPU, was kinda looking at this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125357

Would be open to any reputable online sites and in terms of price, just below the most expensive or the best to price ratio would be for me.

I would do yourself a favor and spend the extra 40 bucks on this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125372 or this one which is an extra 10 but comes with dirt 3 which is like a 40 or 50 dollar game.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125385

I have the 2gb version of this card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161372 If you hurry now this version http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102929 is currently on a weekend sale.

For a cpu cooler i would definitely recommend this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099#top
cools my i7 2600k with no problem.

for an ssd i think this would be perfect for running an os.

Thank you for replying good sir.

Right now I think I can run the 5770 with at least 45-50FPS.

What is the difference between the 1GB and 2Gb versions? In some of the charts the 1Gb versions seem to be a couple of FPS faster too. The card I am looking at is 2GB and is factory overclocked but only has one fan. I was looking at the cards at what really interested me was the extra fans. Wouldn't the Sapphire heat up faster? For the price, Gigabyte always seems to have more fans or better performance. What I am interested in is a 6950 with decent fan setup and fast.

With the HD7XXX series coming out, should I just buy the BF3 Limited Edition and just wait for prices to drop?

That being said, these are the ones I am looking at:

in addition to the ones you posted good sir

The reason i suggested the iceq x is because though it only has one fan it also has heat pipes on the top. If you look closer you can see (they're on the top). This means that your card will still run very cool and will be quieter then say a 3 fan card.

The difference between the 1gb and 2gb is pretty much that you can run games a bit better at higher resolutions and its also optimal if youre going to be doing a multiple monitor display.

I looked into that xfx and its also a well respected card. Keep in mind this has a really good warranty on it but most cards have a 2 yr warranty and thats all you really need since you'll probably want to replace your card in 2 years anyway.

Its really hard to come up with many differences. i mean they are all 6950s after all.

Performance is all going to come down to how much you overclock. saying that the gigabyte model has better performance doesnt really mean anything. The fans are nice and will keep it cool but three is kind of overkill. My advice is unless the reviews say that the cooling is bad, then its fine. Graphics cards in this price range 9 times out of 10 come with good cooling.

In conclusion just choose a 2gb model. They are only $10-20 more then the gigabyte your looking at and its definitely worth it at that price. You'll be able to have better display options in the future as well.

if you have any concerns about anything i just said. feel free to tell me :)

Hmm, understandable I guess. Like a V8 compared to a V6..

Well, in order of what I what I am looking into,
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161372

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150550
or
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150549

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102945
or
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102929

And if prices for this really drop, then
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125385

But I will pickup BF3 and the cpu cooler first and wait for the 7 series to price drop these things

BF3, AC MX 2 and the cooler are the ones I will pick up by tonight
