Which USB 3.0 ports on the back of the motherboard (ASRock Z77 Extreme4) are the actual Intel ports? There are 4 USB 3.0 ports, two of which are ports by Intel, while the other two are by ASMedia ASM1042.

Top 2 ports: right beside the PS/2 port
Bottom 2 ports: right above the audio jacks

If anyone knows, please let me know which ports (top or bottom) are controlled by the Intel chipset. Much appreciated.

I looked through the motherboard manual and I could not find any information on which one is Intel and which one is ASMedia, looks like you will have to contact ASRock fot their lack of documentation.

Yeah I have been looking for this info quite extensively and I can confidently say that it's not part of the original documentation - strangely I can't find anything online either, hence why I'm asking. I will contact them and I'll update here once I get the answer.

ASMedia >> Top 2 ports: right beside the PS/2 port
Intel >> Bottom 2 ports: right above the audio jacks

This info can be found in Device Manager

Well voirin, thanks, and you are correct. You know I am about 75% comfortable using Device Manager, but how you managed to correlate controllers to plugs is beyond me. In any case, this is the reply I received from ASRock (thanks Eric Lin):

Hello,

Intel USB 3.0 is the one in the middle
Asmedia USB 3.0 are the one on top.

So there we have it. For reference if anyone else needs to know.
