Need suggestions on mb and gpu for moderate gaming system

Approximate Purchase Date: 10/31/11 (tomorrow).

Budget Range: $900 After Rebates for new parts.

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, software development, virtualization

Parts Not Required keyboard, mouse, optical drive, hdd, operationg system (Windows 7 64 bit), ups

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Amazon ( and as a last resort newegg )

Country of Origin: USA

Parts Preferences: by brand or type : motherboard - gigabyte, asrock.

Overclocking: Yes

SLI or Crossfire: Yes, in about 1 year when pcie 3 boards come out

Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080 - will upgrade when I go SLI

Additional Comments:
Plan to keep system for 3-4 years
Need help selecting mother board - "futureproof" for SLI pcie 3.0 upgrade in 1 year
Need help selecting interim gpu (till I go SLI)

mb undecided - prefer "future proof" since I will keep it for 3 - 4 years. Z68, usb3 ports 2, usb 2 mininum - 4 minimum, PCI-E 3 slots 2, Overclockable !
perfer Gigabyte or Asrock. Amazon but if desired board is not available there Newegg is acceptable.

gpu changed to ASUS ENGTX560 DCII OC/2DI/1GD5 GeForce GTX 560 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP $189
Better performance at slight price increase

Please recommend Motherboard for this build !!!

Get a asrock z68 extreme3 gen3.

I'd go with a 560ti.

So far it looks like the Get a asrock z68 extreme3 gen3 is my best choice - It is a Gen 3

The i5 2500k and a GTX560 are a good basis for your system.

The idea of "future proofing" is really not practical, esp with the dual card SLI idea. To make SLI work you need identical cards...really identical. The chances of you getting a 2nd identical card 3 years down the track is pretty unlikely.

To run SLI you will need a bigger power supply, better cooling over the cards and then the ineviatable setup and driver issues.
