For the past few weeks i have been contemplation buying a gtx 680, i was wondering if i needed to upgrade my motherboard. Right now i have the Dell Studio XPS 8100 Motherboard T568R DH57M01 T568R since it came from my old computer. It is now in a new case. if i upgrade my motherboard will i need to get a new CPU.

computer specs:

intel i7 870 2.93 GHz LGA 1156

Dell Studio XPS 8100 Motherboard T568R DH57M01 T568R

radeon HD 6850

2x Dell SNPP382HC/4G 4 GB memory

Your windows installation may be tied to the board bios string, identifying it as a genuine dell board. I suggest you save the 6850 for your next system and sell the dell system intact if you're not happy with it. 1156 boards are scarce; go with 1155 if you want to change boards.
