my mother board is an ASUS and i think this is the correct model#Ag PRO 8xusb2.0 supports ddr400 memory.

For $900 you can buy some pretty powerful hardware why don't you buy everything.
Also it is difficult to upgrade a system that old.

Yes I am. Looking from your specs you have DDR2 or DDR1 memory, and both are very hard to find. (if not impossible). Getting a new one will be worth it. Trust me It would save you a lot of frustration.

Yeah you need a whole new system. If you tell us what you are looking for we could help with parts.

Well this is why i was wanting to rebuild it i know i am going to have to gut it replace the mother board video card i should still be able to use my tower its a shell anyway and i was not sure at just what i can salvage and what i cant. can i still use my power supply and dvd rom drives? or has the the cable connections changed on the newer mother boards and can i still run windows xp or do i need to switch to 7 and yes my machine runs ddr2 memory i was thinking of going with a dual or quad core processor with at least four gig of memory so what new mother board do you suggest i get and what ram and processor and i know i got to replace my Video card cause its agp and it wont work on the newer mother boards. i figure if i build it myself like i did the first time i should be able to save quite a bit of money or at least come out cheaper than just buying a whole new machine.

If you are going for a gaming computer get a amd CPU with a fast gpu.
If you need processing power get an intel i5 or i7. With a normal gpu
If you need serious processing go for a Xeon CPU. With a normal gpu.

If you want an i series processor, go for an ivy bridge or sandy bridge, lga 2011 . It supports quad channel memory.

If you just want it for casual use go for amd apu, or i3.

Does your power supply has 6pin 75 watt plugs(two for some graphics cards)

AS far as my power supply goes ill have to get back to you on that.
