Compaq ram compatability

I recently bought a Compaq presario 7000 that is slow as hell. I want to pirate all the parts and use them on anew Asus or other board. Is Compaq ram proprietary? Is it compatable, and where can I find info on it? Compaq support for this kind of question seems to fall on deaf ears.

Generic oem parts are not usually as good as aftermarket parts, check out what it says on the ram, you should be able to use it,Try it and see

It'll probably work. Crappy companies like compaq love to buy the cheapest off market brand memory available.

It really depends on the system. I think the 7000 used standard ram, but Compaq has been know to use weird stuff before! I have plenty of it here!
