I currently have an xfx ATI Hd4870 1gb and I've had it for a long time now (since it came out). I am now looking for a significant upgrade in performance and efficiency for a decent price. I don't want to crossfire and I don't want to get a new psu ( I currently have a 550w) so any suggestions/advice as to what to get would be nice =).

Solution
A Radeon HD 6950 or GTX 560Ti would be a decent upgrade from your 4870, either card will max out all but the most demanding titles at 1080p. They are usually found for somewhere between $200 and $250, don't bother with the 2GB version of either card unless you are running a resolution above 1920x1200. They are also about as high as you can go before you really hit diminishing returns as far as price-to-performance ratio goes. The cards above the 6950/560Ti start to get really expensive for small performance gains ie. pay an extra $70 to get an extra 10% performance boost over the card just below it.
