So I want to build a simple PC for my mom shes using an old Dell Inspiron 4600i I believe its a super old single core piece o crap.
I want to build her a new PC with a Dual core CPU but I can NOT decide which CPU is the best!?
All she uses the PC for is email, Microsoft Word & Excel, and occasional web videos nothing heavy at all.
My budget is less than $200 and these parts all satisfy
I will be using two 250GB HDD that I already own frm previous PCs aswell as the ODD and Windows 7 Home 64-Bit
The parts I will be using for either build include:
CASE: $25
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml...
PSU: $25(After Rebate)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
RAM: $23
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
Case Fan:$8
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Now I can NOT decide which is better
CPU Socket 775: $40
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml...
MoBo: $45
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

or
CPU Socket 1155: $40
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml...
MoBo: $57
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

WHICH CPU IS BETTER?

This.

Go with an i3-2100 - it's much newer and will last you quite a while.

Im just guessing , but I think the OP wants a $40 processor which kind of rules out the i3

I would go with that Intel G530 LGA1155 CPU from Microcenter and an H61 motherboard such as the ASUS P8H61-M LE/CSM ($69.99 at Amazon.com).

http://www.amazon.com/P8H61-M-CSM-REV-3-0-Motherboard/d...

MicroCenter also has 2 x 2GB for $19.99.

NewEgg is having a one-day 15% off sale on Corsair PSUs and there's also a MIR. You can get the CX430 for $18 & change: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... (promo code: EMCJJKG23)

That PowerSpec case already has an 80mm rear fan. That should be enough. I have the similar TX-381 and it's plenty for a low power system like you are building. Just watch your fingers inside the case when building -- it has some razor sharp edges.

Yea I was considering the Pentium CPU becuz its only 20$ more so I would still be under my budget, i will probably go with that. Thank you all for your responses, I just wanted a little feedback on a system like this thank you
