Upgrades for my 1336 Platform

This is my current system :
Cooler Master HAF-X
Intel Core i7-950 Bloomfield 3.06GHz
ASUS Sabertooth X58
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 12GB
(2) MSI N560GTX-TI Twin Frozr II
OCZ Z Series Gold OCZZ850M
(3) Acer GD235HZbid Black / Orange 23.6

So I built this last tax season (right as Sandy Bridge got recalled *cries*) and I was agonizing on what to upgrade and decided to go for Graphic power rather than buy a new CPU. I plan on using one of the 560s as PHYS X and donating the other. My PSU was rmaed to new egg for high pitched noises, replacement did the same then New Egg discontinued them, so screw that thing. I want to try water cooling and possibly finally OCing. I love this gigabyte board and its like half off with the damn rebate!! The 580 cards offer a lot of memory, so I hope that will be better for a surround system.

I would just like general thoughts on these upgrades. Especially on the PSU, and I see a lot of people concerned with bottle necking the CPU.

I want to shove this all in an Antec DF-85 and keep my HAF-X for my next build.

GIGABYTE G1.Assassin LGA 1366 Intel X58

More about upgrades 1336 platform
  1. Keep the board, DO NOT GET THE BIGWATER! They leak, break and are horrible. I would get an xspc rasa rx120 for roughly the same price.
  2. The Asus rampage only has 2 PCI Express 2.0 X 16 and 1 PCI Express X 16. I did not think I could run the 560 as Phys X that way?
  3. imo there really is no point in upgrading yet, kepler is going to be released. However You could use some of that money for a better cooling setup, something like a custom liquid cooling setup such as a swiftech h20-220 ultima xt.
  4. Do not get that Thermaltake PSU. Here is a top notch PSU for the same money as that one after rebate.

I agree with Amuffin on the RASA being a much better watercooling setup.

I also agree with him on waiting to make a purchase this big until Keppler is released. It may be a huge step up.

Something to think about as it seems you have a very high budget here but dropping LGA 1366 altogether and building an LGA 2011 platform. You could save some money in that watercooling would not be necessary. You would be able to hit very high clocks on a good air cooler. You would not only gain higher clock speeds than that i7 960 will give you with any cooling you also gain 6 cores and quad channel memory.
  5. Don't buy a new motherboard for your aging socket. Just get a 7970 now and upgrade to Ivy later.
  6. So my deal is I am terrible at saving money, so I put extra into my federal and claim 0. So I get a nice chunk back with Federal, if it werent for bills id have 5k to play with, but instead ive got like 2k.

Theres no way im holding onto that money for a while :P So I guess ill always be a step behind.
  7. With 2k you could get a lga 2011 system.
  8. What about these? Its totally 1,919.96

    Intel Core i7-3960X

ASUS Rampage IV Extreme LGA 2011 Intel X79

    G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133

    CORSAIR Professional Series Gold AX1200 (CMPSU-1200AX) 1200W

Ive got a case already, hmm I need a new cpu cooler ***! but ive got HHDs, the vid cards which I guess ill replace later. UGH its 3am im exhausted...
  9. Get the 3930k when they come back. Or you can upgrade to an i7-2600k....
  10. are the 3930s ever gonna come back ive been looking at New Egg real close since Jan 1st theyve always been out of stock! Most other sites haven't had them either, I know the lower end SB-E comes out the 7th, but thats no fun
  11. How about this:
    Asus p8z68-v pro/gen 3
    16gb Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz ddr3
    Corsair ax1200
Swiftech h20-220 ultima xt (not on newegg)
