Which LGA 2011 Board?

I'm looking at building a new system and am looking for the right board. I've been looking at LGA 2011 boards, the latest review of which on TH are from nearly 12 months ago.

I am building a mostly gaming rig, looking at about $2k, but am variable if I can get more value for my buck.

My questions are two:

Is LGA 2011 the way to go?

Which board is best?

I would like to have plenty of room for RAM and HDDs, and probably 2 video cards. I am willing to go up to $400 for the MB, but only if it has all the bells and whistles.

Has anyone had any good experiences with 2011 boards, or know whats best?

Thanks in advance.

the 2011 is the cream of the crop in terms of bandwidth and performance, but the real question is dya have teh extra cash to drop all of that onto your other hardwares?

reason I asked is cos most people yearn for a ferrari but later say they don't have the money to pay for the fuel to drive that thing.

I'd suggest getting a Z77 mobo for half the price you'll be shelling out on.
my rig would be something like this:
MSI Z77 Mpower
8GB DDR3 1600/1866 Ram
at least 1x256GB
GTX 680 or maybe a 7970
650W PSU
cases - well that will change depending upon your taste.

but ifs its board advice you want - Z77 all the way.
my 2 cents :)
