I have a 5750 in my rig, a 4850 in my wife's. Passing her old 8800GS to a roommate. Not everyone runs big cards. I would love to get a bigger card like a 6850 or 6870, but I only play Source games like TF2 and L4D2. At 1050 with everything but AA maxed I have a completely fluid game play. (4x AA on TF2, I think same or 2xAA on L4D2.) I just can't justify buying a new card when I don't need it. Perhaps with D3 comes out I'll get a new one.

I have in various family PC's in no specific order. I list them as mine as i paid for all the rigs so i figure they are still technically mine :kaola:

1. Rage 3D prophet 128mb
2. 9800 SE AIW
3. X1650XT
4. HD 3850
5. HD 4770
6. HD 5830

Of what possible benefit is this thread?

Freedom of speech and all that i guess the OP can ask what ever they like (within reason...obviously)

Mactronix :)

I'm still using a 2-year old 4890 in my primary PC.
My second PC has a 4850-512.
My bro's PC has an 8800GT-512 originally used in my old AM2 5000+ BE system.
That AM2 5000+ system was relegated to "family" use, sporting a 4670-512.

All of these cards are still fully capable of fluid performance in all tasks asked of them in their specific systems, but have begun to show their age in newer games. Upgrade time is approaching, but isn't really necessary yet.
Graphics card Authority

Three desktop systems:
Gaming machine - GTX260 - hey, I am two years behind on my gaming anyway. :)
Torrent box - 640 MB 8800GTS
Workhorse machine - 4870.

The 260 seems to work a little better than the 4870 for what I do. That's why it is in the gaming machine.

you could always upgrade that am2 system with an AM3 proccessor if your motherboard can accept am3 processors (some am2 boards do).

There's really no need... It still does all it needs to do -- email, web-browsing, stream netflix, light gaming, etc..

Oh I understand, and I'm well aware of my options.

The problem with that particular motherboard (MSI K9A2-CF) is it's hard-limited to 95W CPUs. (MSI chose shitty MOSFETS, which were upgraded in the "V2" model of the same board to support 125/140W Phenom CPUs.) Any AM3 CPU I dropped into it couldn't be unlocked (SB650 doesn't have ACC) or overclocked (much, if at all) without risking the entire board due to power limitations.
