Help with router

Greetings Tom's community,
I have a question.
I use a wired router, it used to work fine, One day it started acting up, it keeps searching, finds the connection and then after a few seconds starts searching all over again.
Please help, i do not want to buy a new router unless someone can assure me that the one I have is shot.,

Reset the router .
Change the cable .
Make a new cable end ( UTP - like this http://www.cosmosul.ro/hardware/poza-mufa-utp.html )
