I want to be able to dual boot Windows 7 and Windows XP.
I just partitioned my drive and did a fresh install of Windows 7. Then, I installed Windows XP on the second partition, but after the computer rebooted, I was getting a disk read error and nothing would boot. I had to wipe everything and start over. Right now I have the drive partitioned with Windows 7 installed and want to know how I should proceed to get XP properly installed.

Hello and welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums.

Install XP first and add in 7 to the second Partition. Windows 7's boot manager operates differently from XP's but doing it this way round will give you a black screen at boottime with the option for Windows 7 or earlier version of Windows.
