It implies that unsharp mask is gone, replaced by "smart
sharpen" with fewer controls.

Can anyone verify or refute this?

I thought it implied that "smart sharpen" was added, and nothing about
unsharp mask being gone.

Yep - there's a review in the current issue of Digital Photo magazine
(UK) which states that "Smart Sharpen" has been added, but they think
that generally USM is more useful. I can't imagine Adobe would remove
USM, they're normally very good about maintaining backward
compatibility.

Cheers,

Tim.
