Solution
I was one of the early proponents of the 'go large on the PSU' cries but these days I do feel that many people do go a bit OTT on the wattage when really they should be looking at the quality of the PSU as well as the wattage/amperage.
Yes. But I would go with with an 850 watt PSU.

Figure about 10 amp for the CPU and 30 amps for two video cards. That's 480 watts. Figure 100 watts for the motherboard and 50 watts for 2 HD's and an optical. That is about 620 watts.

I fure that is a high side estimate of power consumption. One of my systems has an OC'd Q9550, 4 GB RAM, a GTX260 - a card with similar power requirements to a GTX560Ti, a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P motherboard, 3 hard drives and an optical, and a Soundblaster card all powered by a Corsair 750TX.

Running 3 instances of Prime95 to load the CPU and 3DMark06 to load the GPU, it pulls 375 watts from the wall as measured by my Kill-a-Watt meter. Figuring 80% PSU efficiency, the system pulls 300 watts from the PSU.

Using this data, I'd estimate that system power consumption with a pair of GTX560Ti's would be around 500 watts.

My point exactly. The numbers someone posted on one of the 560 Ti threads said that the 2500K system with SLI 560 Ti's draws about 500W on full load, which makes 650W great. Did you ever measure maximum power draw of your system and if yes, how much was it?

You cant just go and say a system power draw will be the same just because they have the same components.

I Have a 2500K and 2 560 TI's.

Example1
2500K @ 4 Ghz and 560 Ti's @ 820 Mhz

Example2 (My Setup)
2500K @ 4.9 Ghz and 560 Ti's @ 1Ghz

Power draw between these two systems are going to be different.

Hmm, I wonder whether the fps gained from torturing the CPU and the GPUs with such a monstrous OC are worth it. Too many people OC without the need... what, i5-2500K can't game without being OC'd to 4.2+ or what?

Though, I agree with your argument, of course.

EDIT: And what PSU are you using?

My CPU is liquid cooled and my GPUs are gigabyte 560 TI SOC (Super Overclock - Stock Clock 1000 Mhz).

The PSU i am using is actually from my last setup. ABS Tagan BZ Series BZ1100 1100W
The reason i have this psu was from my quad SLI 9800 GX2's. With a full overclock on the cards and my CPU i would easily hit over 900W power draw in 3D mark vantage.
