Hi,

Last year I made a new build from scratch. Ugraded from a GTX 280 to GTX 570. What I would like to know is, would it worth keeping my GTX 280 as a dedicated physx card? will I see enough perfomance increase to justify the extra power consumption in physx games?

thanks in advance for advice.

thanks for the reply.

I usually play the newest titles on 1920x1080, mostly RPGs and FPS. my other system specs are:

i7 950
6gb 1600
GTX 570

One more question i have is , will a dedicated physx GPU uses just as much power as if it were the main GPU?

thanks again.

Unless you frequently play one of the few games supporting hardware physx then it's just going to use power and produce heat and not actually do anything for you. It won't use as much power as the main card because most of the time it will just be idling and not doing anything, but idling still uses power. Are you sure your power supply can handle both cards?

I have a 600w tagan sth psu right now(have been using it for 3 years), not sure if gonna be enough. Would gladly shell out more to get a 850w one though. I don't overclock so heat shouldn't be a problem.

I don't know of many new games that use physx. Batman Arkham City comes to mind, but what games do you use Physx for?

I kept my 8800gt as a backup card and to use with physx games and only install it when I will be playing a physx game (for me it's very rare, so it's not that big of a pain in the arse).

600W seems good to me, but I don't know how much power a card will pull as a physx gpu. My guess would be not that much compared to the main gpu.
