Looks like a hardware issue to me.

Are you mixing types of ram? Kingston and Mushkin?

Too bad you waited over a year now to look into this, hopefully the hardware is in warranty if you need to exange it. Try one stick of RAM at a time, and try to add some cooling on the card (simple way, open the case, blow a small desk fan at the video card) and run a benchmark like 3DMark for a few passes. If it crashes even with the extra cooling, you can try a new heatsink, test the video card in another PC to rule out anything on your computer, and lastly, replace the card.

thanks for all the replies.. in the first year i already replaced the 4850 with a new one but it still gives me the same problem..Tried updating drivers (uninstalled and reinstalled from amd's site) .. Can the mixing ram cause this ? or can it be the mobos problem ?

It may be the motherboard, or RAM or the power supply. Since you already replaced the card, those are the things to start looking at. And try the card in another system if you can.

Try running memtest86+ and see if the RAM sticks got any damage in them.

damn , cause im running both the rams in 2 different channels .. so i should start with memtest first ?

Have you monitored the temps that the system is getting ?? looks like the Video card is overheating then shutting itself off to avoid permanent damage -- So you need to check the temps of all the components (ie. RAM, GPU, CPU, HDD, PSU, etc.) to see if they are also overheating -- How long has it been since you did a thorough cleaning of the inside of the case to remove dust, etc. (esp. in the heatsinks of the CPU, GPU) ? Are all of the Fans working ? Is there a proper number of fans in place to keep decent airflow ?

Thanks for the reply JDFan well im using the haf932 and have all the fan slots filled with CM's cfm90 fans and all are working..doesnt look like theres much dust.. but the funny thing is that this has been happening ever since i first started using my comp and also replaced my card to see no difference..but its happening more frequently these days even without gaming..basic facebooking/google/msn and my comp gets into that state

There are a number of ways to get the temps -- Everest Home edition is a free download and will give you the CPU temps on the MOBO info pages -- GPUz is also free and will give the video card temps (can also log the temps in the background while you run some testing to get stress temps). When posting the results be sure to also include the room temp of the room you are in as the system temps will vary depending on the ambient temp of the room also)

Sounds like you should have decent airflow in the case - if it has been this way since the system was new and is just happening more frequently then it could be the Thermal interface Material (TIM) was not installed properly at the factory so removing the heatsink and reapplying new thermal paste might help the situation but hard to tell without current temps.

thanks for the replies guys.. heres my temp readings while playing Heroes of newerth on all maxed out .. but now it crashes alot when im firefox..with facebook in particular..weird..

btw my rig is always in my air conditioned room cause im from malaysia..so its about 2x degrees here mostly

If the crashes are happening in even non 3D tasks (facebook), you need test another video card in the system, and maybe try this card in another computer as well. Do you have onboard video to run off? Try that. This should rule out the video card as the issue if things continue. If another card fixes it, then it could be the card (top option), the power supply (as it has to feed the video card more juice).

If this continues with the new card, RAM is the 1st thing to check.

If it has an issue with power on the connections the card used, it can easily cause issues with it, which can also be intermittent. I have dealt with another user on here that had an issue with the power supply and video, a new power supply to boot, replacing it fixed the issue.

oh .. wow i didnt know that..btw I've just finish running memtet 86 for 8 hours and the pass is complete no errors.

You've got two RAM sticks, correct ?
Did you check the RAM sticks separately ?
I mean, use one slot as your primary one, and check the sticks in a separate manner.
i.e, if you're using your first DDR3 slot, then put one stick. Scan for errors using memtest. After the scan, take your second RAM stick and place it in that same DDR3 slot ( with the one scanned before, kept away ). Then scan it.  

If still the problem persists, some faulty RAM can get past memtest, so I'd recommend you boot with just one stick. If no problem, then boot your PC with the second stick(only). If no problem again, then it could be your GPU. Run the onboard and see if the problem still persists.

Hey guys ..Tried the above method GMAN450 suggested and my rams work fine..will run the onboard..my comp just crashed again with NOTHING running except FIREFOX ON FACEBOOK.weird

Those temps do not look bad so probably not due to overheating -- though Overheating of the PSU can not be ruled out -- How old is the PSU ? (could be the PSU is starting to go bad or overheating and the reduction in output once it heats up a bit could be the cause.)

the PSU is new actually ... roughly about 1 year and a few months old

its funny now .. i was playing Hard Reset on all settings maxed with no lag,i alt tab to check my downloads and when i open the game back,my comp again flashes into that lines screen ,my speakers plays some static noises about 2 seconds and my comp just restarts..heres the crash details everytime that crash happens and my comp restarts..

Did you try and run it with the onboard video ?

im about to..sorry was quite busy this week..er do i have to take out my gpu or just leave it and select it from the bios area in the start?

UPDATE: I just rescanned my ram again via memtest, ran 6 tests for about 2 hours+ and i got 5 passes and 1 error on my kingston ram , are we suppose to get a perfect all passes or can 1 error cause this problem ?

Yes, probably.
Try booting up your PC with the RAM stick without any problems. ( As I said, some faulty RAM sticks can evade memtest 86+)
Do the usual, play any games, browse the web, etc and see if the BSOD still occurs.

I don't think HDD can cause this. The power supply might, but since this problem with the BSOD appears even when idle, I'm a bit doubtful.
How was it when you ran the onborad video ? Did anything happen ?

hmm it crashed again but both of this was while i was watching videos on firefox..i tried it with opera and it works fine..hmm

I'm starting to think it's problem with the motherboard itself. The RAM slots might have gone bad. But there's not much telling.
Have you still got warranty for it ?

hi there..well ever since i had this problem , i took it back to the shop and they tested it saying it was fine..its quite old now i doubt it has a warranty..hmm perhaps i can try running it with the onboard for about a few days and try to stay away with firefox + flash.. if there actually was a way to lure out the bsod .. dang

oh btw , when i got my comp the first time , it was on an m2 board and i recalled it doing the same thing on Crysis towards the ending but not so sure about the others..pretty much everything has been changed since the first time i set my rig up EXCEPT for the HDD and the GPU.. the procc,PSU,mobo,case and rams have been changed .. but i get it more frequently now just for a thought..

So, you had this problem back when you had an AM2 mobo as well.
Also, when did you buy the new mobo ?
Did it have the problem from start (when you bought it) ?
Ask the people to replace your mobo if you still have got warranty.

all my hardwares im guessing is out of warranty alreadyy..as their warranty is very short.. and yes when i had my am2, it mostly crashed during crysis but not firefox and other things (not sure if it was a crysis glitch)
