Minimum requirements for Battlefield 3
OS: Windows Vista or Windows 7
Processor: Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz or Althon X2 2.7 GHz
RAM: 2GB
Graphic card: DirectX 10 or 11 compatible Nvidia or AMD ATI card, ATI Radeon 3870 or higher, Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT or higher.
Graphics card memory: 512 MB
Sound card: DirectX compatibl sound card
Hard drive: 15 GB for disc version or 10 GB for digital version

Recommended system requirements for Battlefield 3
OS: Windows 7 64-bit
Processor: Quad-core Intel or AMD CPU
RAM: 4GB
Graphics card: DirectX 11 Nvidia or AMD ATI card, Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 or ATI Radeon 6950.
Graphics card memory: 1 GB
Sound card: DirectX compatibl sound card
Hard drive: 15 GB for disc version or 10 GB for digital version

TL;DR Yes, you can play BF3 but a CPU and GPU Upgrade wouldn't hurt. A AMD Phenom II X4 would be nice along with a GPU in the 6800 series or above would be great.

thx for reply

Would you recommend waiting for prices to fall? Do prices fall quickly ? its roughly about 150 pounds for graphics card on that range

100 for a Processor

I'm thinking I might wait to upgrade since it can run BF3. I'll probably be happy enough not having the best graphics.

Prices don't fall quickly at all, the only really drop when a bigger and better Graphics card comes out and that might be a while.
If you have the money, and if you're motherboard and power supply can handle these I would defiantly get a hold of those items.

You will need a 500W PSU inorder to run a Phenom II X4 and a 6870. If you can do this upgrade, it will be well worth it.

Just make sure you're motherboard can handle a Phenom II and if you're power supple is at least a 450W

But, you should have no problem running this game on medium settings

Your system's fine. You could use a GPU upgrade, but I wouldn't upgrade to anything less than a 6900 series. Else it's not going to be that significant. That's a relatively modern part after all.
