I have an Intel DQ965GF motherboard with an Intel Cor 2 Quad 2.66 GHz processor, currently running Windows XP with 4 Gb of RAM installed.
I mainly use this computer for video editing and rendering, as well as audio editing. I plan to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate, as this will allow me to upgrade my video editing software, Sony Vegas Pro. I've upgraded Vegas as far as I can go with XP as the OS. The newer versions all require Windows 7, hence the need to upgrade the OS.
I would like to increase my RAM to 8 Gb. The 4 Gb I am currently running is 800 MHz RAM, but if I upgrade the motherboard to 8 Gb of RAM, the RAM will only run at 667 MHz.
What I am wondering is if lower speed RAM will cause a performance hit? Would I be better off just staying at 4 Gb of RAM?
