AMD HDT35TWFGRBOX Phenom II X6 1035T Processor - Six Core, 6MB L3 Cache, 3MB L2 Cache, 2.60GHz (3.10GHz Max Turbo), Socket AM3, 95W, Fan, Retail

AMD HD96ZTWFGRBOX Phenom II X4 960T Black Edition Processor - Quad Core, 3.0GHz (3.40GHz Max Turbo), 6MB L3 Cache, 2MB L2 Cache, Socket AM3, 95W, Fan, Unlocked, Retail

I realize 6 core is more modern. But Black Edition means its unlocked for OC'ing correct? I'm looking at using the CPU for gaming mostly, games such as BF3, WOW, or Diablo III.

Just wanting to know which would be the best investment. Thanks in advance.

For gaming you want the faster clock since they hardly use more than 3 cores.

Thank you.

Also I'm thinking of going with the MSI 990FXA-GD80 Motherboard.

Do you think that this will be a good match for the CPU, and do you think they will hold up to modern and future games for at least a year or two?

yes. I prefer gigabyte boards myself but yes that will hold you over for some time. Bear in mind that gaming will also need a capable video card too.

I seem to be partial to MSI for some reason, I like the OC genie and they seem to have a great price for the quality they offer.

As for the video card a friend showed me this one:

but I'm not to thrilled with what it offers.

I'm thinking more along the lines of a EVGA GeForce GT 520 or EVGA GeForce GTX 550 Ti??

The 550Ti is much better than the 520, go for it if its in the budget.
