Corsair TX850W

I have pondered hard over what PSU to buy and the TX850W seems to keep popping up.

At present my current MB has a single PCIe x16 slot, but I am considering a more expensive board with 2 such slots.

Now my GTX 260 has a pair of 6 pin connectors and I figure SLI with that class of card is a cakewalk. :pt1cable:

If I get a dual GPU card, that is one way to more performance in a single slot and I believe the TX850W can do that without even breaking a sweat.

Searching with Google I saw that greedy GTX 580 users tried this model and it did not choke with SLI.

I am more of a 2nd bin user, so the cards I see are pairs of 6-pins so I think the TX850W is suitable.

The 260 needs 2 6-pin connectors with a free 15.2W each. X2 would be a grand total of ~61a... as the TX850 has a single 70a rail you will be fine.

I am thinking about a dual GPU card too

That PSU will run up to 2 GTX 580s in SLI. 2 GTX 260s Draws less power. A quality branded 750W should handle.

I think the worst video card is the HD 6990 with the BIOS2 switch that wants 425W of power for overclocking (best best is water with that switch)

even a HD 6990 can run with a 700W PSU.

The TX850W seems more conservative, having some elbow room means no risk of overloading

I hate underpowered PSU, I see them fried all too often

750W is not underpowered you just have no idea about what each component consume anyway the TX850W is great, you're good to go.

I've been changing my system up for years while running my tx750... I've ran an overclocked q6600 on it, my 6 core i7 now(oc'd as well), a 295gtx, and now two 6870's... and liquid cooling now. A lot of people under estimate power supplies, I'm pushing closer and closer to the 750's threshold, but still not there with a pretty crazy system... you'll be good!

the old HX seem to be respectable and durable, the TX a newer series

I saw one review of the TX850W run it with 2x GTX 580 cards and no problems, they ran the PSU up to nearly 1000W and it did not choke.
