I am building a new pc mainly to play some games on over my old one now. I have been out of the whole PC scene for about 3 years now. I know alot of people dont like the FX processors, and thats fine, as I can always upgrade later down the road when they come out with some faster ones. I have a Q6600 now, so I have to assume the new pc will be alot faster that the Q6600.

ASRocks 990FX Extreme3 MB

Western Digital Caviar Blue WD5000AAKX 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s

XFX HD-695X-CDFC Radeon HD 6950 2GB x 2 Crossfire

Antec High Current Gamer Series HCG-750 750W power supply

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866

AMD FX-4100 Zambezi 3.6GHz

Antec KUHLER H2O 920 Liquid Cooling System

With a new mouse that puts me at $1250 for everything, video cards being about half of it.

Only games I will be playing will be BF3 and MW3. Even the 4100 overclocked will be? My monitor is a 27" 1080P 120hz 1mhz response time, so I would like to get as many frames as I can with the highest possible video settings at 1080P.

*cough*

I would put my money on the q6600 being the better cpu...

why would you build a monster system like that, then get that... cpu...

edit: you cant think of bulldozer cpus how they are advertised. "8 core" is really more like 4 core. that "4 core" cpu you have chosen there is really more like 2 core. ie, a step back from a core2quad

I have seen the benches that show almost any CPU will run BF3 as fast as the graphics system will allow . Even AMD's Llano can pull similar fps to the mighty intel 2500k ....which is pretty hilarious when you see all the fanboys on this forum telling people to buy faster cpu's .
But I dont believe the 4100 will get the best from two top end graphics cards . I dont know for sure , but I think it will choke them. Another regular wasusing a similar graphics system with a Phenom quad . He OC'ed it , and then finally he replaced it with an intel 2500k before it would give him consistently high FPS .

I am gonna have to stick to AMD. Intel 2500k is almost twice the price of what I was looking at. I know I have 2 mid level video cards in there, but I am on a budget. I figure with the 2 video cards, I wont have to upgrade them relatively soon. The processor I could upgrade in a year or so.

I just can seem to get over all the benchtests being done on the FX-4100. It seems to me like they were all done with old chipset drivers and Nvidia video cards, which my buddy has a X6 on a 990fx MB and was having all sorts of frame problems with his dual 560ti's till the latest chipset drivers came out on 10-31-11.
