Hi I have had this acer aspire laptop5100 for a long time, and have never had a battery for it I bought it used. The original problem was that someone had spilt coke on the laptop and a short time after it stopped working. Computer had been cleaned by my brother and he got it working, I purchased it off him. At this time the battery was dead.
I bought a new battery for the laptop and it will not charge. The computer recognizes the battery and says that it is "plugged in, and charging" but doesnt charge. I checked the "charge" prongs located in the battery bay and can only get 4v on two of the connectors, I was under the impression I should get 17+v.
After speaking with my brother we think that during the coke incident the battery was shorted thus blowing a fuse located on the motherboard of the computer. the Mainboard is hcw51 and I have the wiring schematic PDF. I read of a similair occurance on a aspire one netbook and although different the person managed to bridge the fuse to make it work, I am seeking a similiar fix. I am unable to locate the fuse in the schematic and I am looking for some help in finding it.
On a side note after tearing the laptop apart I noticed a slight hum coming from the acdc adapter, I checked the volts at 18v, It is rated for 19v. Im not sure if that is the source of my problem or not, but am only getting 4v on only 2 of the 7 prongs. thank you.
