Will GIGABYTE F2A85X-UP4 AMD A85X work with AMD Phenom II X4 965

I'm looking to upgrade a few things, specifically my motherboard, ram and install an SSD.

Looking at the motherboards available to me I like the look of GIGABYTE F2A85X-UP4 AMD A85X, but I can't upgrade my CPU at the moment (AMD Phenom II X4 965). I'd like to know if this CPU will work on this motherboard.

No, that board has a FM2 socket. You need an AM3+ socketed motherboard.

Thanks, that saved me from a costly error.

So if I'm looking for an upgrade is it worth going to an AM3+ board? Will that support better CPUs than what I have down the line?

If so what is the best AM3+ board around at the moment?
