Hi guys, I have a Biostar TF720 A2+ motherboard as seen here:

I currently have a AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ cpu installed, running at stock speed of 3.1GHz. I'm looking to upgrade to a Phenom II X4 for better gaming, but I'm unsure what will be compatible with my motherboard. I understand that an AM3 CPU will be backwards compatible with my AM2+ socket in my motherboard, but I'm unsure if there are any other criteria I need to look at before I upgrade. Here are the two CPU's I'm looking at for an upgrade:

Would these two CPU's be compatible with my motherboard? And if you'd like to make any other suggestions to improve gaming on my system, feel free. Thanks!

FYI here's my current setup:

Biostar TF720 A2+
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ (3.1GHz)
4 GB DDR2 800 RAM
320GB HDD w/ 1TB Back-up
ATI Radeon HD 6850
24" 1920 X 1080 Monitor

most likely niether of those will work.

Your mobo needs 95w cpus and the phenom 975 is 125w. Your mobo also doesn't have support for thuban so theres a chance it won't work with the 95w 960t.

your best bet is the 925 or an athlon 2.

All you have to do is click on the "CPU Support" tab and it lists every processor that will work with your motherboard. Neither of those you picked on newegg will work. The Phenom II X4 945 95w is the best processor your board can handle. If you can even find one make sure it's the 95w model and not the 125w model. Neither is made anymore.

This one:

NOT this one:

The only processor I even see on Newegg that AMD is still selling that will work with your board is the Phenom II X4 925 and it is out of stock. Actually it is out of stock everywhere I look. You might try ebay or Craigslist and try to find a 945.
