Sapphire HD 6870 has 690 shaders??

Hi!

I wanna buy a Sapphire HD6870 1024MB 11179-09-20G card:
http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?leg=&psn=000101&pid=981 (the one with central fan, not the reference)
but i read in some forums that some people checked it with GPU-Z(and other programs), and it has only 960 shaders(stream processors)
Could somebody confirm that?

Thanks!

More about sapphire 6870 shaders
  1. I own a XFX 6870 and I can tell you I have all 1120 stream processors.They all do.
  2. All 6870s should have 1120 shaders, if they don't, then there is something wrong with their card. I own a very similar 6870 from Sapphire and mine definitely has 1120 Shaders. Are you sure they are not talking about the 6850 on that forum? The 6850 only has 960 shaders.
  3. That would make a lot more sense.Probably the 6850 you heard.

No, I'm sure it was HD 6870, I know that HD 6850 has 960 shaders :)

So your card isn't with the reference cooling, it's with the cooling fan in the center, right?

    Thanks!

Yes, from outward appearances, my card appears to be identical to the one you linked to, though mine has a different model number. I have all 1120 shaders. Cooling is okay with that model, though a more aggressive fan profile is recommended to keep the 100% load temps below 80 degrees celsius. The fan does get a bit loud when revved up beyond 50% speed. I don't find it an issue since I use headphones when gaming, but if you are worried about fan noise, you may want to look at a different model. Either the people on that forum are confusing the 6870 for the 6850, or it's possible that there are some 6850s that are mislabeled as 6870s.

    Ok, thanks!
But if you look at the links I posted, you see that they are HD 6870 cards, device ID 6738
  7. Very odd, someone must be screwing up at the factory.

  9. It could also be GPU-Z.It's a good tool but it's known for having errors.
  10. Hello, I was going to order sapphire 6870 Item model number: 11179-09-20G from amazon.co.uk (it's almost at the same price as 6850) but then i decided to check around the internet if the graphics card was reliable and then i found this thread about the 960 shaders problem.
    Is this problem fixable?
Is this common in all sapphire 6870 Item model number: 11179-09-20G ?
