So as some might know, microcenter is having a great deal for the beginning of Nov. The deal ends this Sunday, the 11th. (Can view here: http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/16efa968#/16efa968/27).

I'm pretty set on the i5-2500k, but there are way too many mobos that I could choose from. Given the choices in that ad, what would be some good suggestions and also reasons for them? Also brands or models I should avoid like the plague? I plan on using the IGP in the i5, so will need a Z68, and I also plan on OCing both the CPU and IGP.

Edit: I've gone through the ad and compiled a list of all the Z68 mobos in addition to their prices after he $60 deduction. Options welcomed!

More about budget build microcenter 2500k deal
  1. MSI z68-GD65 G3
    AsRock Extreme4 Gen3
    AsRock Extreme 3 Gen 3
    Asus z68-V Pro

    In that order.
  2. avoid the intel

but of the rest choose the one that has the features you want , and is in your budget . Performance will be near enough identical
  3. I like the AsRock Extreme3 Gen 3, but I don't think Microcenter has it, they only have the Extreme4. As far as I can tell, it only adds a few more USB/SATA links for about $50 extra :(

For the lower end boards like:
    ASRock Z68 Pro3-M
    ASUS P8Z68-V LX

I noticed that the VRM is only "4 phase". How much (if any) does this affect the OC capabilities of the IGP and CPU?
