Hey, I just bought a new harddrive and want to transfer all the contents from my old drive to the new one then format the old one and use it on my little brother's PC. How do I do just that?

I think that Norton Ghost or a similar program will do that.

I usually just partition and format the drive
then I use xcopy32 c:\*.* d:\*.* /s/c/h/e/r/k (use respective drive letters)
in a DOS box from Windows (not MS-DOS mode and you can't do it properlly with DOS). Make sure you use xcopy32
switch em and set the new drive's primary partition active and wa la!

I'm just too lazy to install Ghost and use it.. since that's always worked without problems. I've got it somewhere though.

I have found the best utility for that is the full version of ez-drive. If you bought your drive new from a retail store there actually should be a floppy with that utility on it ( however it will be a proprietary copy only allowing copying for that drive)

A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing!

Try out Image Cast IC3, instead of Ghost. You can just use IC3's demo and do the job instead of paying $60 for Ghost. Makes no sense to pay for a program when you can get a similar program for free.

One more thing-you can get a free drive coppying program from the manufacturer of your hard drive, no need to actually buy anything! You simply install both drives at once and use the software.
