Can a high vcore for a 2500k instantly kill it?

While selecting an overclocking preset, the pc instantly crashed, and now refuses to post. All i get is a quick flicker of the LED's and the fans turn on for a split second, then everything shuts down.

I have already cleared cmos and tried the motherboard and cpu with a different psu. I have also tested the RAM on another pc and same with the video card.

Other specs

Msi p67a-g43
Intel i5-2500k
8gb G.Skill Ripjaw
OCZ Modxstream Pro 500w*80 plus*
Sapphire 6850

how high a vcore are we talking about?

i have put 1.5v through my 2600k to see how far i could overclock it

ran it for an hour at that vcore at 5.2ghz with no problem with an h80 cooler

backed it off now to 4.9ghz at 1.44v

so it would have to be a really high vcore

It is possible to kill a CPU through overvolting yes. Has the system been working before just up until you pushed the CPU volts up?, because in that case i would beileve that that was the action that probably took out one of your parts.

Have you ran memtest to check any errors in your RAM?
