What causes the bios menu to go blank

Board: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. P55A-UD3 x.x
Bus Clock: 133 megahertz
BIOS: Award Software International, Inc. F11 08/10/2010

When I enter the BIOS Setup screen and click to select a 2nd screen it goes blank
I have to reboot and retry often several times before I can proceed through the sequence of BIOS Setup screens

What could be the cause of this problem

Could you please tell me how I'd go about resetting the BIOS I'm 83 now and these days I need all the help I can get !!!

you have to remove watch size battery from the computer's motherboard and let it sit there while not connected to wall power for the bios to reset and then put the battery back in, plug the pc into power
