Troubleshooting fan noise 9400 GT

Why is my GeForce 9400 GT making noise on an on again off again basis? The card was replaced about a year ago after the fan "melted" and the card fried leaving me without a display until it was by-passed. Now it appears the fan is whirring loudly, though not all the time. Is there a quick fix? The interior of my tower has been kept clean at all times. I blow it out every two weeks and haven't noticed any built up dust. Can I just solder in a new fan or am I going to have to replace this thing again, which is a quick procedure anyway? P.S. I have dual DVI sockets if that helps though I don't think it makes any difference.

It could be a ball bearing loose or the fan vibrating within the case, making that screech noise every now and then. I had the same issue a long time ago with a 9800XT (ATI, not nvidia, god that dates me).

What did you do?

Probably a bad fan.

I replaced the GPU fan/heatsink combo
