Hey, This will be my first build. I will be gaming mostly. I used the $500 Gaming PC from
the System Builder Marathon as a reference. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/phenom-ii-overclock...

I will be purchasing the parts near the end of this week.
Budget: 500-600

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 970BE Deneb + SAPPHIRE 100314-3L Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit Combo

Mobo: ASRock 970 EXTREME3 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

PSU: Antec EarthWatts Green EA-430D Green 430W Continuous power ATX12V v2.3 / EPS 12V 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Case: NZXT GAMMA Classic Series GAMA-001BK Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Ram: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9S-4GBRL
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

CD/DVD: SAMSUNG CD/DVD Burner 22X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 16X DVD+R DL 22X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 24X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM Black SATA Model SH-222AB - OEM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Total: $528.52

I need an OS and Hard Drive. I'll probably be purchasing an HDD from elsewhere like a local store, Best Buy or somewhat.
For the OS has anyone had any experience with RoyalDiscounts, trusted? Because Win7 Ultimate 32-Bit is $107.99. http://www.royaldiscount.com/Windows+7+Ultimate+PG/Wind...(Branded).html?utm_source=shopping&utm_medium=mall&utm_campaign=GLC-00182
or would I be better off buying from Newegg?

For a monitor I will be using a 32" LG HDTV - http://www.lg.com/us/tv-audio-video/televisions/LG-lcd-...

If you can find a 955 combo, go that way. Otherwise this is fine, as it's the same price as the GPU and a 955 individually.
Win7 Ultimate is a waste. Just go with Home and save $8 (make sure it's 64-bit). There's nothing you need there.

Sure, but the 430 is enough. 6870s only run around 250W at full load.

Alright then, I'll stay with the 430w and go with Win7 Home.

You need a bit copy of Win 7 64 bit . If you dont Windows wont be able to use all the RAM you have installed .

If you need to save for an Windows OS you could down load and install Ubuntu Linux for free , and even usually game with it . Its open source , fully functional and includes a lot of software

AMD Phenom II X4 965 $115 if you use the promo code and buy today ]

and easy to OC to 980 speeds

SAPPHIRE FleX 100314FLEX Radeon HD 6870 $160 [ after rebate]

Yeah, I was thinking of using Linux for a while. I'll be able to buy an os and the end of the week, as of now I have enough to buy the parts listed above.

Yum...I'll get that Sapphire Flex card, looks awesome. That card is on a weekend savings, If I buy it tommorow, will it still be for that price? As long as it is still in stock correct?

Is the stock cooler fine or do I need an aftermarket cooler?
I'll be able to get Win7 next week, should I use Ubuntu or wait until I get Win7.
As for using Ubuntu as the primary OS what is the difference between the 32 and 64 bit?

32 bit operating systems can only use 3.2 gig of RAM including the memory n the video card

Always use a 64 bit OS

If you do use ubuntu you will still be able to install windows later .

The stock cooler works , but after market coolers will let you OC more or stay cooler

I've read some good reviews about the hyper 212 evo. Will it be fine?
Any good thermal pastes?

The Hyper 212 is a good cooler . The Xigmatek 1283 is also good .
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

There is thermal paste with the cooler . Some people say that arctic silver lowers temperatures a lot . I doubt that that is true.
The idea is to use as little as possible so only microscopic imperfections are filled

Hyper 212 will not fit in the NZXT gamma...

Yeah I thought so...The Xigmatek also looks big, will it fit. I plan to change case in the near future, but sticking with the NZXT for now.

Sorry Redsun, but I'm calling BS on your statement that the 212 wont hit. It will fit. It will be close (as most aftermarket coolers are in midtowers), but it WILL fit. I think the darknight is a shade bigger and that will even fit as well.

Alright, purchased just now.
I settled down with all the parts above and swapped out the 970 for a 965 and sapphire flex

still i would change/get the OCZ Fatal1ty 550W instead for assurance and future proof wise.

the Antec EarthWatts 430W only has 30A. the HD 6870 requires at least 34A for continous power.

Yeah, I swapped it out. First attempt to purchase didn't go through. I had to call the bank to raise the daily spending limit. Called and raised the limit. 2nd attempt shortly after failed as well. Swapped the PSU and tried purchasing again after an hour, went through. Seems like it took an hour for the limit to raise.

Maybe I just got an undersized case, or an oversized cpu cooler, but I had both, and the hyper 212 did not fit in my NZXT gamma case
