I5 2550k?

While picking out my new PC on cyberpower it shows that I can get a free upgrade on my CPU. It's originally a 2500k and now you can get a 2550k for the same price.

So what I ask is what's the difference, even if it's only a tiny bit better I will still get it because it is the same price as the 2500k.

2550k or 2500k, differences?

From what I saw, you have everything that the 2500k has, minus an integrated iGPU (I guess they're targeting people who will have discrete graphics anyway), and plus .1GHz speed (3.4GHz which turbo boosts to 3.8GHz). I'm not sure if the processor actually gains more OC headroom over the 2500k, so don't count on that.

if you have a video card then do it, the 2550 is slightly better except it doesn't have an onboard gpu.

I would go for the 2500k, Its so good already that you would see no real performance increase from the 2550k and plus i has onboard gaphics

No but the 2500k is so good anyways that theres no need to spend extra even though its only like £10

He said it was the same exact price though. I would get the 2550k. Either way you're still good.

The difference between the Intel® Core™ i5-2550K and the Intel Core i5-2500K comes down to just a couple things. The Intel Core i5-2550K..

-100MHz faster clock speed.
-no IGP (On the Intel Core i5-2550K) the IGP has been desabled stopping you from using it in the future. Now since the processor doesnt have to run the IGP it can run cooler overall. Because this processor has the IGP disabled it might end up being a better overclocked processor.

Christian, were the op to have a 2550k and not be using the IGP, but it is not disabled in bios in case quicksync is to be used, would the igp still be powered and adding to thermals whilst doing nothing?

Lol the 2550k is just a 2500k that failed the iGPU test, so they bumped up the clock speed 100MHz and called it a 2550k. Just get the 2500k and same some money!

Oh my bad. I probably should've read the whole post haha. Well if he ever needed the integrated graphics (video card died, virtu, quick sync, etc) then i guess it would be a better option. but then again he would need a z68 board. plus on the 2550k you might be able to squeeze out an extra MHz, so yeah i guess it would be the better option.
