Hi all please help me choose which gtx 580 to slam in my current sandy bridge rig and my upcoming bulldozer build. :)
I DO NOT want to see biased results by brand and also want an explanation on your choices.

thanks in advance.

MSI lightning extreme gtx 580 3 GB is best as air cooled card but i think nothing beats hydro copper version from evga.

The Asus and MSI models have the best cooling out of all of the GTX580's.I voted for the Twin Frozr because in the benchmarks it outperforms the DirectCU by a few degress. Also one of the main reason why I chose the Twin Frozr is because it's still a dual slot card. The DirectCU takes up 3 slots which can troublesome if you want to SLI and don't have a specific Asus brand motherboard.

Here's a review of the Gainward vs the Asus DirectCU

http://www.hardwareheaven.com/revi [...] temps.html

The DirectCU stays 4c cooler and O.C.'s about 20mhz core and 200mhz memory more than the Gainward.

Here's some more benchmarks....

^I posted some more info in my post above.

How much space would be between each card if you used the DirectCU?

It seems from those benchmarks the MSI Lightning is coolest running card.Cooler and smaller, can't really beat that.

gigabyte for the reasonable price performance + warranty ratio...

gainward n msi? wud pick the latter one...runs cooler...

Reply to veenk

Is really the only reason for picking the Gainward is because of looks? You know that 98% of the time you own the card it's gonna be inside your case where you can't see it.
Unless your using a Test Bench.

Reply to purple stank

The Gainward Phantom is built for silence.

I voted for the Gigabyte SOC for being not only the quietest, but also the fastest out of the box.

The MSI Twin Frozr II isn't even the latest version of that cooler, that would be the Twin Frozr III on the Lightning editions.

I think this is self explanatory myself but if you need for me to spell it all out.....

we have here:
Antec 300 Illusion case
Gigabyte 990xa board
955BE in socket
8GB WintecOne DDR3 1600MHz kit
MSI TwinFrozr II GTX 460 SOC in pci-e slot 1
700-watt Sentey SLI

I'm awaiting my cpu/cooler from newegg and my SSD off eBay, both coming in today.
throw my (physX )MSI TwinFrozr 1 OC GTS 250 in there with it and all I have to do is wait for Bulldozer..
maybe a little tightening up on the cabling.
I was going to get the HEC 750-watt but place had sold out on me..
since this is a closed case I feel no need, real need for a modular supply.

anyways, the pic was for the MSI TwinFrozr II...
it looks good as hell sitting in there...:D

this is the place where you can see the requirements to play BF3
they say gtx 560 ti 1024mb but i say with anti aliasing on you will not score
more than 25 fps with a gtx 560 ti 1 gb.
the recommended gfx for metro 2033 is gtx 260 1.7 gb
but you all know it is still not maxed out by a single 580.
and when bf3 recommended is 560 ti(a top line card)than what would you need need to max it out maxing out means every thing on including AA and motion blur.
i get steady 50+ fps in crysis warhead(gpu destroyer)when aa is off.

Reply to hellfire24

my gtx 480 maxes metro 2033 and so will a 580 comsidering it is gracefully faster.
50fps in crysis without AA and a gtx 580 is quite low results.
i get above 60fps with my gtx 480....

upper mid-range...
and when you clock the 560 Ti it can ALMOST push the 570.

my 460 SSC+ in SLi matches the 580, only because they're SSC+ models and not regular to mild overclocked 460's.
