24 pin power connector

hi guys quite a dumb question but i just dont wanna mess up my system. i have a psu with a 24 pin connector and with a 4 pin power connector, do i have to plug them both into the mobo or is the 4 pin optional, thanks

The CPU and possibly the RAM won't get any power without that 4 pin connector.
