How new are 3d monitors like Zalman?

I've just found out about Zalman 24" ZM-M240W Stereoscopic 3D LCD Gaming Monitor, is this fairly new technology or something that never took off? How's the quality of 3d gaming? Anyone own one? Are there any other brands?
