Some older G4 Macs didn't come with the standard Airport to facilitate wireless connections - are you sure your's has one? If it does, as has been posted, you need a router and any make will do but if you can afford it, future yourself with a Wireless N capable router. Set it up with strong WPA or WPA2 level security and the Mac will identify it immediately - pop in the security key you created and it won't need telling again.
