Hi,

This is my first build and I'm interested in any feedback you may have.

Approximate Purchase Date: within ~10 days

Budget Range: $850 (flexible, although I'd love to chop it down to $750 or lower)

System Usage from Most to Least Important: gaming, music player/server, watching DVD's

Parts Not Required: Monitor (computer will be connected to a Samsung TV), speakers and audio card (I have a stereo and a USB DAC), large HDD (I have a NAS I can use for storing movies)

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Amazon, NewEgg, Microcenter, etc.

Country: USA (near DC)

Parts Preferences: None.

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe

Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

Additional Comments:

I would like the PC to be quiet when not used for gaming (i.e. near-silent when playing music).

This is the first PC I've built, so please let me know if there's anything I've forgotten.

Here is what I am thinking:

CPU: i5-2500K- $179 at Microcenter
MoBo: Asrock z86 Pro 3 motherboard- $50 at Microcenter (when bundled with i5)
Cooler: Master Cooler 212 Plus- $25 at Amazon
GPU: Gigabyte 6940- $244 at Amazon
HDD: 90GB OCZ Vertex 3- $110 at NewEgg with $30 Rebate and promocode
Case: Antec 300- $50 at Microcenter
Power: Earthwatts 650D- $70 at Amazon
Optical Drive- Sony Optiarc AD-7261S- $20 at chiefvalue.com
RAM- 2x2GB Crucial Ballistix sport DDR3-1600- $28 at Microcenter
Thermal paste- Arctic MX2- $7 at Amazon
OS: Windows Professional Student- $65
Total: $847

Looks good, with the exception of the HDD. Buy a real HDD and upgrade to a SSD later, since a larger storage is probably more important for storing games and music than a faster boot time. Win 7 takes like 16GB, so you'll only have like 74 (somewhat less) GB of space...and my 500GB harddrive is 3/4 filled from like 5 games.
