I have a 4870X2 video card and I was wondering if it was time to retire it and upgrade to a newer video card.

I was wondering if the $200ish upgrade would be worth it and would I notice a substantial performance difference?
How does the 4870X2 run games that are out now? Does it still max out every game?

How does the 4870X2 compare against these cards??? (560 GTX / 6950 2GB)

I currently have one ASUS EAH4870 DK/HTDI/1GD5

I am looking to get another so I can crossfire them, which would cost another 150 bucks or is it not worth it? Should I spend 200~ on a gtx 560?

it's a tad worse than a 6950, and doesn't support dx11. I had a 4870x2 They run super hot and also if you play a game windowed the second card doesn't activate since it is a crossfire solution (granted 2x 4870's)

For the bang, I would suggest 6950 2gb for 1080p solution, save a bit of money and 560ti for 720p. <-- ball park statement since you don't really give specs or what you'd be using it for

edit: The 4870x2 is a behemoth of it's time, it's also super power hungry, time to modernize :) the 560 won't net you any sort of raw power increase, but will provide the typically modern card pro's, less heat // power consumption dx 11 etc

I jumped from a 4870x2 to a 6950 2GB. It's a little more reliable, and runs A LOT more quite and cooler than the 4870x2

I typically stay away from nVidia cards because they completely lack horse power // ALU's

2nd edit: Just noticed you put 560 gtx? It appears to be even less of a performer than the ti

At that point I'd 560ti since you get dx11 as well as similar performance, it's also a single card solution which is just more reliable

I use dual monitors, play alot of bad company 2 and looking forward to BF3. So yeah I play in windowed mode, so you suggest the 6950?

Super edit: 6950, I misread which card you were talking about.

stick with the 6950, I simply like the card more than a 560ti. It's more well rounded and simply put more powerful :p so long as you don't mind spending a little bit more on it.

Really you get what you pay for

Not directly, the 560 is an upper mid level card, it was never meant to compete vs the 6950, although it does quite well.

The 560ti is the manly ediiton, whereas the 560 gtx and 560 and both dimmer versions intended to compete with the radeon mid cards such at the 6770 etc..
The 6950 hence the number scheme is intended as a higher end card. If you want a direct comparison I would look more closely to the 570

I doubt you'll find something with a 560ti, 560 gtx and 6950
