Hey guys, I've a fairly good system, but I'd like to upgrade it. As I don't have infinite budget, I can only go one by one slowly. What do you think should I upgrade first? Please no posts like: go i7, sli, 1000W psu and 16GB ram. Thanks
It's not clear why you want to upgrade from your original post, for example, if this is only because you are running out of space, then clearly a second HDD is the way to go! :-)
I'm assuming speed, and you are sticking with your existing MOBO
Bearing in mind you are on a budget I'd suggest first item on the list is buying RAM. You have a dual channel motherboard with only 1 stick of RAM in it. When you use both slots with IDENTICAL RAM sticks, you will get a noticable performance shift, RAM is also pretty cheap, if you can't find a matching RAM stick for your existing one to make a pair then buy another pair. Your board will support Support DDR3 1333/1066 SDRAM, so 2x 1333 would be the best, grab 2x 4GB 1333 or 2x 8GB 1333 if you wanna splash out more.
You will have to throw more than £100 at the problem to upgrade your chip, so prob not worth it for marginal gains.
Tom's does suck sometimes when you try to edit posts. IMO I think you should add another stick of the same exact ram to run in dual channel mode as previously posted. If you can't find the same stuff buy new and discard old. Put them in the correct slots for dual channel. If you don't have the mobo book go on line to see the specs on the manufacturers site.
I get better performance from my old core2 quad, but that doesn't mean what you have is doing anything to hold back your machine for what you do. Buy the ram if you think you need to spend money. After that a processor upgrade.... ????/
