i have a EL1333G-01w MB-DAO61/087L AMD64 AM2 Socket 2010 model year 1.8 Ghz Sgl Core-obviously I'd like to change to a dual core-which AMD Dual Core processor would be the best-need speed for mathematical calculations and CAD

unfortunately its highly doubtful that an OEM product have much, if any, upgrade option.
to see if it even would support an Athlon 64 X2 (which is already a low end chip)

most likely you are looking at upgrading the whole box. really an Emachine is more for a terminal on a network than a standalone work station.
