I wouldn't bother buying one of those more expensive 6850s because even the very cheapest ones like powercolor overclock just as high. I should know both my powercolor 6850s are at 940 core 1200 memory and solid as rocks at 55 degrees delta temp.

I have no idea how warm that 6870 runs, but I do have a sapphire 6850, which looks just like it, and it runs around 75*C max with the fan at 80% but I live in Chicago, which is nowhere near as hot as Hawaii.
NOTE-I have my 6850 at 850 core/1100 memory and a sound card almost directly under it, blocking airflow hence the 80% (its on an matx)

Edit- even at stock clocks its at 70*C at 78% fans (damn, I think it is time for a new mobo)
Good luck finding a card!
