Is this a good gaming pc

i just built my own gaming pc but am dissapointed with it to the point of i feel like selling it and buying xbox and ps3 games. i bought dead island and it ran but screen teared and i just bought skyrim and it lags or stutters a little ive seen people with 550ti run the game ok was gonna buy saints row but dont wanna waste anymore on pc games that wont work properly should my pc run most games my specs are

i7 920 not overclocked
6gb ram
64gb ssd
1TB samsung spinpoint
gigabyte killer gaming motherboard
sapphirre 6870 vaporX

Screen tearin is most apparent when your frame rate exceeds refresh rate of monitor. Most likely solution: Enable V_Sync either in game or force it on in catalyst control center.
Skyrim: Try the latest drivers: Catalyst 11.11 (uninstall in Windows, reboot in safe mode, run driver sweeper, reboot normally, install new drivers).
