Hi everybody!! Can anyone tells me which are the best adjustments for flaskmpeg? The best resolution(I'm using 448x336),bitrate,keyframe and smoothness or crispness? I need 8-9 hours with a cell 566@850.

There is no best setting. It all depends on the lenght of the movie and the amount of action in it. It also depends on how many cds you want to put the movie on. Here is a link to a very comprehensive DVD ripping web site http:// http://www.go.to/doom9 .

In general a bit rate around 910 (the default) is good. I leave mine on high crispiness unless the movie is action packed which will make it jumpy. As for key frames, the more you have the more likely your sound is perfectly in sync with your video, so i leave mine at one every 3 secs or so. Fewer key frames usually means higher video quality all around though.

You need 8-9 hours(whats the lenght of the movie how many fps are you doing). That can't be answered with out more information. The bit rate calculator on the web site as well as the flask guides are a huge help. Have fun.

Helpful hints:

Doom9 is a great spot but he is biased in favor of 2 CDs per DVD. Since my purpose is to get a DVD to play on a 12 inch laptop single CD quality is fine for me. If you want to go single CD use DivX fast not slow. Doom9 says Divx slow is better for 2 CDs and I'm sure he knows what he is talking about. Fast will usually come in under the set bitrate. The last movie I did was really dark with not much action. With the bitrate set at 910 the actual was more like 500.

Your time seems about right. Flask is one of the few programs making good use of p4's potential since it has SSE2. My new p4 1.3GHz is 3 or 4 times faster than the old cel 750/83.

One good way to cheat and get your bitrate down is to go to the lowest framerate 23.9 instead of 29.9. This is saving a lot of space and seems to help with interlacing artifacts. Unfortunately it does not always work. If the video is switching between progressive and interlaced while playing in Flask's player then this will not work. It is working about 80% of the time for me.

Cropping is very important if you are not already cropping start. Getting rid of the black borders completely will help file size.

Do not use Flask (untill it is fixed) for editing. If you need to chop off a little of the previews or credits to get a movie to fit use Virtual Dub. Instead of plus or minus 30 seconds or so VD is dead on to the frame. Also use VD to sync sound to video. Lastly use VD to convert sound to a more compressed codec. Sound can take up lots of space going to a lower bitrate can save lots of room. DivX sound is very compressed and codes very fast.
