Power supply upgrade?

Hi all

I have a Dell Optiplex GX620 and I need to upgrade the PSU to at least 400/450w.

Can anyone recommend a PSU that will be 400/450w and fit into my Optiplex GX620?

what size is the Dell GX 620

if you look at that page it shows the different models or sizes of the computer

if it is a minitower than you have a chance of the standard ATX form factor fitting
if it is a slim desktop or small form factor (SFF) then you would have to probably run
the PSU externally outside of the case
doesnt look good but effective

that is a nice find
but that is standard ATX which wouldnt fit a small for factor or half height slim desktop
I had the Optiplex 745 slim desktop and that is the sister tower to the slim desktop GX 620 as far as case design goes

If that really is the PSU it comes with you cannot replace it with another unit, it is a non-standard shape and size so you are going to have a really hard time finding one to replace it with.

I just looked at that link on your PSU
I had the same exact one in my Optiplex 745
and no it cannot be replaced by any high powered PSU that I know
I looked when I had my Dell
that is the one from the slim desktop model
I ran a HD 5670 low profile video card with that tower
can only handle a GPU with no six pin power connector
a HD 6570 low profile card would be the best you could use with that tower
if a video card upgrade is what you want to do

So thinking to save money, Ill go with the 6570, doesnt look like a bad video card? Could it run many games? Im mainly looking to play Oblivion?

depends what resolution you are playing at
at 1920x1080 the card can probably handle medium settings
at lower resolutions the HD 6570 can handle higher settings
I have Oblivion and at 1920x1080 with a HD 5670 in my Dell
(HD 5670 is roughly same performance as a HD 6570)
I was able to set it one setting below highest setting (ie high<very high)
so yes you can game just depends on resolutions and settings
unless you want ultra settings at 1920x1080 or higher the HD 6570 will be fine
at lower res (under 1680x1050) you can probably do some high settings

not sure how it is in other countries

the HD 5670 has been discontinued and hard to find which is a shame since for the money it was a great card
