Hello,

I plan on building a computer and I don't know how much headroom I'll need in a power supply unit. I'm curious what supply I should go with for the following build.

CPU: FX-4100 AMD Quadcore, stock cpu fan/heatsink
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3
GPU: Gigabyte ATI 6850
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8gb (2x4gb)
Optical: Lite-on DVD-R drive
HDD: WD 500GB 7200rpm
Case: Antec 302, if that matters

I don't plan on OC'ing at all.
I'll have 6 fans in total, besides the CPU fan.

What am I looking at?

For a system using a single Radeon HD 6850 graphics card AMD specifies a minimum of a 500 Watt or greater power supply. The power supply should also have a combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 25 Amps or greater and have at least one 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors.

Total Power Supply Wattage is NOT a crucial factor in power supply selection!!! Total Continuous Amperage Available on the +12V Rail(s) is the most important.

Make sure you pick a known name. 500W is plenty but if you go for around 600W it will give you better efficiency and upgrade potential.

The most important thing though, is that it's a known brand and not a cheapo thing.

I checked the power supply I've selected and I have 35A so I'm good. Along with the 6-pin connector.
