I'm looking to upgrade my current computer. It is an old PC with:
C2D E6600
Asus P5N32E
Antec P180
OCZ 600W*
8800 GTS*
4GB DDR2 800
---------------------------
*The PS is dead, the GTS was upgraded to a HD6870 a while back. The 6870 has a scratch on the back that I'm sure is bad but has not caused artifacts etc.
This was my first build so I'm not sure about bottlenecking, but I imagine (hope) the processor is holding back this card. I don't want to replace it so soon. I will be playing on a dual-monitor setup, 25" LED for games and 19" LCD for surfing/pandora/netflix.
I will be raiding in Rift and would like to get the best performance possible. I've heard the engine is inefficient so I'm not going to chase some benchmark like Ultra@60fps. I would like to be able to play on ultra while soloing, and have no problem disabling AA or view distance and dropping settings while in raids for max fraps.
I need:
CPU. Pretty sure the i5 2500k will take care of this.
SSD. Don't have it, need it. Crucial seems to be the most recommended.
Mobo. What's good these days? Should I just wait for panther point?
GPU. Will HD6870 be enough with the new CPU?
Case. I've had cooling problems in the past, even with aftermarket fans. No cord management, either. I'm inexperienced with builds and could really use a case that has some working space.
PS. 600W+ good enough?
RAM. Going for 8gb, usually go with corsair but I'll be watching newegg deals.
I want to buy in the next 2 weeks, unless I should just wait for ivy bridge/panther point. Note that I wouldn't be buying the new stuff, just hoping for a price drop in the old. Money isn't an issue, so feel free to add/upgrade.
